Our U3A has been fortunate in being able to run a number of language groups. Among those running at present is one which has evolved over a number of years, from raw beginners to a position where we are now able to go to France and hold some conversation. You will note we are not making extravagant claims!
A major difficulty for language students of any standard is retaining the knowledge between visits to the respective countries. So our group meets twice monthly, and we have a friendly and sociable morning, talking and listening to each other, helping as best we can, and referring to the dictionary as necessary. We do not have any qualified language teacher in the group, but some of our number are quite advanced and they keep us stretched, and our thanks are due to them for the encouragement we receive from their good example.
